Summary

Abstract
Since the city of Erzurum has harsh climatic conditions and high elevation, propagation of cut flowers is limited. However, in the city with the increasing social and economic life standards, demand for cut flowers is consistently increasing. With this study, conducted based on the data obtained from a survey over florists in the city, cut-flower consuming potential and problems florists encounter in the city were determined. According to the study, the most preferred cut-flower species was found to be cloves. Flowers were found to be used mostly for bouquet, arrangement and wreath making. These flowers consumed in the city are mostly brought from the cities of Yalova and Antalya via transportation companies or in coaches. Problems reported by the florists in transportation, preservation and selling of cut-flowers are mainly caused by unfavourable climatic conditions. For the solution of these problems, Tortum and Çoruh valleys, very close to the city, may be used for the propagation of these flower species more economically, because of their microclimatic features. Therefore, cut-flower demand of many cities in East Anatolia Region may be satisfied.
