Abstract
Determination of Reactions of Some New Cotton Genotypes (F7) to Meloidogyne incognita Chitwood and Meloidogyne javanica Chitwood Root-Knot Nematodes
Cotton is an important industrial plant because of its fiber and seed. Root nematodes are among the harmful of cotton due to its parasitic effects, as in other plants. On account of the adverse effects of nematicides used in this struggle against to humans and environmental health, it is necessary to develop durable cotton genotypes as an alternative to chemical struggle. This study had been conducted in Kahramanmaraş province in 2016 with the aim of determining the reactions of five cotton genotypes which obtained from the Nazilli 84 S(+) x Ashgabat 100(>) hybrid combination against to the Meloidogyne incognita (race 1, race 2) and Meloidogyne javanica (race 1) root-knot nematodes. For this purpose, an experiment with 5 replications was carried out in the climate chamber, with a randomized plot design.
In the result of study, while the G1, G4 and G5 cotton genotypes were found resistant to race 1 of Meloidogyne incognita, the G2 and G3 genotypes had been found susceptible. Moreover, the G1, G4 and G5 genotypes were found resistant to both race 1of Meloidogyne incognita and race 2 of Meloidogyne incognita, respectively.
