Abstract

Effects of Different Irrigation Water Salinity on Leaf Area and Dry Mater of Tomato
Leaves are one of the basic organs of a plant since they perform many functions such as transpiration, oxygen and food production by photosynthesis, and gas exchange with the atmosphere. Growth is explained as the net increase in the dry matter of unit leaf area a plant at unit time. Therefore, nowadays, studies on leaf area or leaf area index has become more important. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of different salinity and irrigation practices on the leaf area and dry matter content of tomato plant grown in greenhouse conditions during February-June period. For this purpose, 4 different salinities ranging from 0.7 to 6.0 dS m-1 and 4 different irrigation applications were selected as the treatments. Since each treatments has 3 replications, the study was conducted in 48 parcels in total. A plant was cut from each subject every 3 weeks and leaf area measurements were made and the dry matter content was determined. A laser (CI-202) area meter was used for leaf area measurements. According to the results of the study, it was determined that different irrigation water salinity levels and irrigation practices affect leaf area index (LAI) and dry matter content at significant levels.
