Abstract
Effect Of Seeding Rate and Nitrogen Fertilizers On Forage Yield and Quality Of Sorghum x Sudangrass Hybrid {Sorghum vulgare Pers. x Sorghum sudanense (Piper) Stapf.)
This study was conducted to determine the effect of seeding rate and nitrogen fertilizations levels on yield and quality of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid in the experimental area of Field Crop Department, Faculty of Agriculture of Gaziosmanpaşa University. The experimental design was a split-plot with three replications, with seeding rates (1.5,3.0 ve 4.5 kg/da) as the main plots and N rates (6,12,18 and 24 kg N/da) as the sub-plots. Half of the nitrogen was applied immediately with planting and the remaining half after the first cutting.
Sowing rate and N fertilization did not affect significantly herbage matter yield at the first clipping. The highest green matter yield was obtained from 4.5 kg/da (5081.9 kg/da) at the second cutting. There was no significant effect of nitrogen fertilization on dry matter yield at the first cutting. The highest dry matter yield was obtained from 9 kg N/da in the first cutting. The highest dry matter yield was obtained from 6 kgN/da and 4.5 kg/da sowing rate in the second cutting. The effect of sowing rate and N fertilization on crude protein content was not significant at the first clipping, but nitrogen rate had significant effect on it at the second clipping. Sowing rate and nitrogen fertilizers have affected significantly then ash content of the first and second cutting.
