Abstract
Physical, Chemical and Mineralogical Properties of Soils Formed on the Çankırı-Eldivan Ofıolit Complex
The aim of this study is to investigate physical, chemical and minerological properties of soils formed on Eldivan Ofiolit Complex in Southwest of Çankırı province. This complex consists of ultra basic and basic rocks that are gabbro, basalt, peridotite, pyroxenit, diabase and also cherty limestone and mudstone. Six different layers were determined on hilly slope land that is approximately 40 m high and soil samples were taken from each layer. Physical, chemical and minerological compositions determined by using XRD analysis were done for each soil sample. According to analysis results, it was found that there are slightly differences among the layers. Dominant clay mineral is smectite (Ca-Montmorillonite) for all layers and following it illite, clorite and kaolinite were determined. In addition that exception of clay minerals, quarts, calcite. serpentine, feldspars were also found in soil samples. Basic cations (Ca, Mg, Na, K) and Fe ions are significantly high in research soils. Rubefaction, one of the soil formation processes, was determined in study area.
