Abstract
Geographic Information System of Surface Waters; Tokat Province Sample
Nowadays, the need for water steadly rises due to the population increase. Graphical and identical informations about fresh water resources such as dams, lakes, and rivers are very important so that they could be used efficiently. In large areas, technologies of geographic information systems and remote sensing present important means in the studies of position designation and routing of water resources. In this study, a GIS database about surface waters of Tokat province was prepared. Rivers such as Yeşilırmak, Kelkit, Çekerek which passes from inside of Tokat province, dams and lakes were considered as basic surface water bodies. The graphical characteristics of these surface water bodies have been drown by using LANDSAT-TM and IRS-1C satellite images. In addition, a digitial elevation model has been formed to comprehend the relations between these surface waters and their neighboorhoods by processing contours in 20 m belong to study area. Finally, the settlements and roads next to surface waters have been digitized to see relation between each other by using satallite images.
