Development of Ultrasonic Measuring System for Evaluating Furrow Profile under Indoor Soil Bin Conditions
Furrow profile created furrow openers effect splashing, drifting, removal of the seeds in furrow, and soil moisture. In this study, furrow profile area formed of three different furrow opener in soil bin was determined by used different measuring method. For this purpose, an ultrasonic measuring system was developed, the suitability of this system was compared with two commonly used methods. The first of method, a sheet metal glued on paper was sunk vertically to furrow profile, then area not in contact with soil was painted. Thus undisturbed furrow section area was calculated. The anther method, a profilometer was used to determine furrow section area. The research results are show that soil swelling determined using ultrasonic sensor is 10-16% lower than those of the sheet metal method, and furrow section determined using ultrasonic sensor is 17-24% higher than those of the sheet metal method. soil swelling area determined using profilometer is 25-55% lower than those of the sheet metal method, and furrow section area determined using profilometer is 54-62% higher than those of the sheet metal method. It is observed that the ultrasonic measuring system is more sensitive than profilometer measuring system, and the ultrasonic measuring system promise for determination of furrow profile and furrow section area.
